I always start the day off with a morning activity with my class. For this half term most of the morning activities consisted of a focus on reading to help embed any sounds children struggle with. I have used twinkl’s phonics activity to help with this.
When you download this from twinkl you will find a folder full of all the phase 1-5 sounds with real and nonsense words in!
My class absolutely love colouring in the read words and nonsense words. It has been a fun way to start the day and I can definitely tell it has had a positive impact on my classes ability to grasp certain sounds they struggle with.
The split sounds such as:
This was my main focus as children always find them harder and it has really helped! After a crazy week of phonics screening, I am sure that the twinkl resources for phonics has helped make a positive impact on children’s consolidation of sounds.
Twinkl is also great at other morning activities to hit those strange KS1 objectives. For instance, my class have easily reached the objective of spelling days of the week through the simple, already prepared resource meaning all I had to do was press print!
Activities like these are also great to send as homework or use for extra interventions too.
Twinkl has a huge range of resources online that can are of easy access and are affordable too! Take a peak….
Please note that I have been given a free subscription in return for the review – but all thoughts are my own.
Feeling super guilty as my promise of frequent blogging has slipped away a little bit, but life has taken over!
I came across this picture on twitter and I just thought wow it really sums up the reasons as to why I keep going.
Why I continue day in and day out to do my 100% best for my class even though I am emotionally and physically exhausted by the end of it.
The reason why I continue to smile and strive after a ‘lemon sucker parent’ has sucked my happiness 5 minutes earlier!
Teaching is by far one of the hardest, most time consuming career but the work that’s put in is life changing for the next generation!
I could never imagine giving up on any child! It’s a shame that the teaching profession isn’t given the acknowledgement it really needs.
Let’s hope in time to come things will change!
Just a thought of the day..#MissPinnock
I was lucky enough to participate in some training with Shonette, the lady that created spread the happiness.
I absolutely loved it! The energy Shonette has is great and I think the energy levels of children definitely rely on the energy given by the teacher too.
Shonette discusses how being happy impacts on children’s learning.
Every so often a phone alarm went off during the training, known as the dance alarm! This is when everyone stops and has a little dance.
How great would that be for the children? I would love to have a go at the dance alarm to lift children’s energy and happiness during different parts of the school day!
Shonette is well known for creating dough disco to help young children’s fine motor skills too!
There are so many activity ideas and videos for the early years on Shonettes website.
Take a look it’s great:
Shonette also discusses the term ‘Lemon suckers’ those members of staff that suck out your happiness! You may be in a great mood then something or someone just squeezes it out of you with negativity. Her advice is to write the names on a piece of paper and sing the song let it goooooo (we all know the tune) as you throw it out!🙈😂
I think this is a great idea! I think teachers always look at the bad. Look at what went wrong all the time but are hardly ever proud of what went right. Being acknowledged and appreciated for all of the hard work certainly makes my day! If all you hear is criticism you could easily think you aren’t doing a good job! ‘Let it go’ is definitely my motto after I come across any lemon suckers ☺️👌🏾.
